In 'The Secret of the Kells' (2009), young orphan Brendan (voice of Evan McGuire) is the nephew of the strict and over-protective Abbot Cellach (Brendan Gleeson). The Abbot is obsessed with building a wall to protect the township of Kells from the marauding Vikings. When Brendan meets Brother Aidan (Mick Lally), a monk from the island of Iona, he is fascinated by an unfinished book that Aidan has rescued from the Vikings, who have already destroyed the Iona monastery. To the displeasure of his uncle, Brendan shows great talent in drawing and enlists the help of magical forest sprite Aisling (Christen Mooney) to help him finish the book and become a master illuminator. In 'Song of the Sea' (2014), when a woman mysteriously disappears she leaves behind her husband Conor (Gleeson), son Ben (David Rawle) and newborn daughter Saoirse (Lucy O'Connell). Blaming her for the loss of their mother, Ben becomes resentful towards his little sister and doesn't treat her too kindly, but after it is discovered that Saoirse is actually a selkie, the siblings must team up and go on a journey, along with their sheepdog Cú, to help a group of mythical creatures return to their home. Finally, in 'Wolfwalkers' (2020), set in 17th century Kilkenny, while hunting in the woods surrounding her walled city, young apprentice Robyn Goodfellowe (Honor Kneafsey) discovers a young wolfwalker named Mebh (Eva Whittaker), who has the power to transform into a wolf when she sleeps. In 'Shrek' (2001) reclusive ogre Shrek (voice of Mike Myers) lives in a swamp on the edge of a fairytale kingdom. When Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) exiles all magical creatures from his land, they come to Shrek's swamp and disturb his peace. Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad and promises to save Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) who is trapped in a castle guarded by a dragon. Marriage to Fiona will make Farquaad a king and in return, he will evict everyone now living in Shrek's swamp. Accompanied by Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek sets out to free Fiona but soon finds himself falling in love with her. In 'Shrek 2' (2004) Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon to find an invitation from Fiona's parents King Harold (John Cleese) and Queen Lilian (Julie Andrews) to visit the kingdom of Far Far Away. However, the King and Queen are less than pleased to see their daughter married to an ogre. When reminded by the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) of an ancient deal to match Fiona with her son Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), Shrek's new father-in-law hires the notorious swashbuckling mercenary Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) to kill Shrek. In 'Shrek the Third' (2007) King Harold falls ill and Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots set out on a quest to find his heir, Artie Pendragon (Justin Timberlake). 'Puss in Boots' (2011) details the adventures of Puss in Boots before he met Shrek and Donkey. A notorious outlaw in his hometown of San Ricardo, Puss will be put behind bars indefinitely unless he can find the magic beans which are fiercely guarded by husband-and-wife bandits Jack and Jill (Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris). Unbeknownst to Puss, however, he has another rival in the form of criminal mastermind Humpty Alexander Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and his tough-talking sidekick, Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek). Finally, the Broadway adaptation 'Shrek the Musical' (2013) finds Shrek (Brian d'Arcy James), Princess Fiona (Sutton Foster) and their talkative sidekick Donkey (Daniel Breaker) pitted against the dastardly Lord Farquaad (Christopher Sieber).
