Bitchin Bajas

Hurtling through the perpetual into this moment is the now and future Bitchin Bajas. An effulgent mass located somewhere beyond land or water, Bitchin Bajas' Inland See is flowing toward you, through the hi-fi, arriving with precision extractions of electroacoustic synthesis, revolving in a post-ambient craft that lifts the listener up powerfully, like you're floating - in saltwater, or helium - effervescent, effortless, elemental.

Bitchin Bajas: Bitchin Bajas [Kassettband]

Bitchin Bajas apparently have a new album coming out in 2022. But while Cooper Crain and his trio waited for their vinyl to get pressed-along with everyone else in the music industry not named Adele-they sat down and expanded on a really great idea they had on their last album, Bajas Fresh. Their version of almighty jazz pianist Sun Ra's "Angels and Demons at Play'' was one of their most inspired experiments and, per the Spotify streaming numbers, one of their most popular. Now here's a full album of Sun Ra interpretations made on 19 vintage keyboards and little else, available only through streaming services and on cassette, and supporting a Chicago organization that connects art instructors to prisoners at Illinois' Stateville Maximum Security Prison.

Bitchin Bajas: Bitchin Bajas [2 Vinyl LP]

Sourced from Inland See sessions, the first two songs dropped on Qobuz in Jan this year. "Watch your Step" adds balance, acidity and completion to the vinyl edition: three cuts, edits and tweaks, electroacoustic textures of sampled kalimba, field recordings, autoharp and EWI activating quadrants of the Bajas cinematic soniverse. Recorded analog - 2" multitrack tape & ½" 2-track - for the clarity and fidelity of "maximal minimalism." RIYL: Herbie Hancock, Steve Reich
