Donoso, Ricardo: Quintesence [Vinyl LP]

The new album by respected underground figure, composer and producer Ricardo Donoso. 'Calibrate' proffers the highest of fidelity, with blockbuster sci fi levels of production value and bombast. Donoso channels sonic spirits across fluro pointillism, futuristic industrial tribalism and more serene moments of synthetic reflection. A journey through Calibrate is an exercise in instability and failure; its aggressiveness serves as a warning against the urge to seek safety on common ground, and its entire approach seems to display a hostility towards the increasingly homogenized nature of new electronic music. "Quicksilver frequencies, gravelly formants and shimmering, mirage-like washes of tone." Pitchfork Vinyl: heavy matte special diecut covers + heavy matte printed inner sleeves, 2 different vinyl colors, 180g vinyl, free download code Cd: nice digipak packaging Stream: www.denovali.com/ricardodonoso

Re_Calibrate', the companion piece to Donoso's 2018 acclaimed album 'Calibrate' continues to obfuscate any clear definition of genre or style and continues to push his music into stranger, more complex and extreme territories. Equal parts tender and twisted, cynical and honest, beautiful and obnoxious, 'Re_Calibrate' shines through as a major point in the composer's discography - and provides a glimpse into the new directions being taken. 'Re_Calibrate' is a challenging listen; void of any trendy tropes or appeal for consumers of watered down, homogenized and dogmatic electronic music. A truly honest and original work in an ocean of clones. Terry Waite was taken hostage in Beirut in the late 1980s, before ISIS, before smartphones, before the Internet as we know it. He endured a mock execution during the first year of his five-year captivity, which was spent mostly in solitary confinement. Years later, during a Q&A session, he was asked to identify the main thing he had learned from his ordeal. The answer, came as a shock - it was not the excruciatingly hard-won appreciation for life and loved ones that one expects to hear. "Contemporary humanity," declared Waite, "has lost the ability to engage in productive solitude." "Content" is the 9th album of the US based producer Ricardo Donoso.
