Wilhelmina Pang (Krusiec) is a successful Chinese-American surgeon who has not told her mother Hwei-Lan (Joan Chen) that she is a lesbian. Hwei-Lan attempts to set her up with her friend's son but Wil is instead drawn to Vivian (Lynn Chen), a talented dancer. As the two women grow closer, Wil's mother reveals that she is pregnant. She will not tell anyone who the father is and her father disowns her for bringing shame upon the family.
