While investigating the link between M.P. Dennis Markham (Ian Bannen) and an East German agent, young journalist Nick Mullen (Gabriel Byrne) realises that he is being set up by the authorities. After his colleague, Vernon Bayliss (Denholm Elliott), is killed in suspicious circumstances, Mullen teams up with Bayliss' beautiful secretary Nina (Greta Scacchi) to get at the truth.

'The Runaway' (2010) follows the story of Cathy Connor (Joanna Vanderham) and Eamonn Docherty (Jack O'Connell), who form a strong bond growing up together in the East End of London but are later pulled apart due to difficult circumstances. Cathy is determined not to end up like her prostitute mother, Madge (Kierston Wareing), but when she is abused whilst in care, she is forced to run away and ends up living on the streets, where she meets transvestite Desrae (Alan Cumming). During this time, Eamonn is becoming more and more involved in criminal activity. Adolf Verloc (Suchet) is a Russian spy living as a shopkeeper in Victorian London with his wife, Winnie (Cheryl Campbell), and her mentally handicapped brother, Stevie (Richard Stirling). When Verloc's Russian superiors order him to blow up the Greenwich Observatory in an act of terrorism, Verloc persuades Stevie to assist him.
