Wine merchant Martin Lynch-Gibbons (Holm) is worried that his wife Antonia (Remick) might find out about his mistress (Jennie Linden), then he discovers that his wife wants a divorce because she is having an affair with her psychiatrist Palmer (Attenborough), who also happens to be Martin's best friend.
