'Desperado' (1995) is both a sequel to and a remake of 'El Mariachi' starring Antonio Banderas as the mysterious Mariachi. He carries a guitar case full of weapons with him which he plans to use to avenge the death of his lover. Aided by bookstore owner Carolina (Salma Hayek), he hunts down the last of the druglords responsible, dispensing his own brand of justice to anyone who gets in his way. Finally, in 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' (2003), rogue CIA agent Sands (Johnny Depp) recruits the legendary vigilante Mariachi (Banderas) to help him prevent an assassination attempt on the Mexican president. Unfortunately for her, she has the same initials as Marion Crane, the woman he stabbed to death in 'Psycho' (1960), and she triggers some dangerous memories in him. A fledgling love affair begins between the two but his demanding 'mother' is not happy with her son's choice of partner and is determined to exert her parental influence. Finally, in 'Psycho 4: The Beginning' (1990), Norman Bates is apparently completely reformed and happily married to a psychologist.
