When the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) uncovers a plot by the War Chief (Edward Brayshaw), a renegade Time Lord, to conquer the galaxy, he is determined to stop him. The War Chief and his people are kidnapping warriors from throughout history and forcing them to compete in war games with the survivors becoming part of the War Chief's army. Along with Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury), the Doctor joins forces with the resistance to fight back but realises that he needs help from the Time Lords to return the kidnapped soldiers to their own timelines. However, if he contacts them, he risks being captured by them for his own crimes. On discovering public schoolboy Turlough lost aboard an apparently abandoned cruiser in space, the Doctor (Peter Davison) transports to Earth in 1983, only to meet up with his old friend friend and UNIT colleague, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, who has apparently lost all memory of him. Back in 1977, Tegan and Nyssa meet the younger Brigadier and a disfigured alien they believe could be a regenerating Doctor. However, it turns out that this is all in fact part of a plot to destroy the Doctor by the Black Guardian, who has made a deal with Turlough to grant him transportation away from Earth if he kills the Doctor. The Doctor (Colin Baker) is put on trial by his people the Time Lords for interference in the affairs of others; three segments of his past and future are presented as evidence. 'The Mysterious Planet' shows the Doctor and Peri (Nicola Bryant) in a battle with a megalomaniac machine on the planet Ravalox, but what are the mysterious 'secrets' it protects? 'Mindwarp' shows the Doctor apparently betraying Peri to the vile Sil (Nabil Shaban) and the Mentors - can the Matrix be falsifying the evidence against the Doctor? In his defence he presents 'Terror of the Vervoids', a future story where the Earth is threatened by evil plant life forms. In the final two episodes, 'The Ultimate Foe', the Doctor learns the truth about his prosecuting counsel, the Valeyard (Michael Jayston), and has to enter the Matrix to battle for his remaining lives. In 'Full Circle', it soon becomes clear that all is not well when the Tardis scanner shows the Doctor (Tom Baker), Romana (Lalla Ward) and K9 an image of Gallifrey, only for them to discover an expanse of marshland when they venture outside the ship. The Doctor realizes that they have somehow travelled through a charged Vacuum Emboitment into E-Space where he meets the local Alzarians - themselves preparing to retreat to their damaged spacecraft, the Starliner, in an attempt to escape the lethal Mistfall. In 'State of Decay', when the Doctor, Romana and K9, still trapped in E-Space, land on a medieval planet, they do not realize that Adric has stowed away on the Tardis with them. They are soon in need of his help when they discover that the local society is ruled over by three vampire lords - Zargo (William Lindsay), Camilla (Rachel Davies), and Aukon (Emrys James). Finally, in 'Warrior's Gate', the Doctor may finally be on the verge of escaping E-Space when the Tardis is hijacked by Biroc (David Weston), a time-sensitive Tharil on the run from Captain Rorvik (Clifford Rose) and his crew of privateers. However, when K9 is damaged by the Time Winds, it becomes clear that he will not be able to make the return journey.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

The Sontarans are a self -cloning race who live in a militaristic society in the 'southern spiral arm of the galaxy'. Humanoid in appearance, with a squat build and distinctive dome-shaped heads, they are far stronger than mere humans and possess an unquenchable thirst for war. In the four-parter 'The Horns of Nimon', the Skonnon ships have returned to the skies of Aneth, demanding tribute. But as the final consignment is being taken to Skonnos, an accident forces the ship off course. In the six-parter 'The Time Monster', a new invention to transport matter through time creates a number of disturbing distortions in the temporal fabric. The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) investigates, and soon finds himself up against his nemesis, The Master, in a battle to control a powerful sacred crystal. In the four-parter 'Underworld', the TARDIS lands the Doctor (Tom Baker) in a Minyan spaceship that is on a quest to find the Minyan race banks stored in a missing ship known as the P7E. They eventually find what they are looking for in a cave system at the centre of a newly-formed planet.
