'Rome, Open City' (1945) takes place during the last days of the Nazi occupation of Italy during World War II. Resistance leader Giorgio Manfredi (Marcello Pagliero) flees the Gestapo and seeks a place to hide with the help of his friend Francesco (Francesco Grandjacquet), his pregnant fiancée Pina (Anna Magnani) and the priest who is due to marry them, Don Pietro Pellegrini (Aldo Fabrizi). Giorgio's ex-girlfriend Marina (Maria Michi) betrays him and his fellow fighters to the Gestapo in order to get her hands on some luxury items and it's not long before the Nazis and the local police find him and Don Pietro. They are captured and tortured but will they crack under the pain or be executed for their silence? 'Paisà' (1946) is Rossellini's account of the liberation of Italy during World War II, told in six chapters. In each chapter a different view of the liberation is given as it spreads across the country. Different characters are also followed in each segment including American chaplains, soldiers, monks and prostitutes. Finally, 'Germany Year Zero' (1948) is Roberto Rossellini's moving account of life in post-war Germany telling the story of a 13-year old black marketeer who poisons his ailing father out of pity and necessity.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set</i>

Knowing that bandits are planning to attack their village after the coming harvest, its inhabitants hire a group of seven samurai to protect them. Led by Kambei (Takashi Shimura), the group includes four hardened warriors, Kambei's new disciple and Kikuchiyo (Toshirô Mifune), the orphaned son of a farmer who is posing as a samurai and is determined to prove his worth. The samurai begin arming and training the villagers as well as fortifying their homes as they prepare for the coming attack, fully aware that the odds are stacked against them. In 'Rynox' (1931) a wealthy businessman is being threatened by a mysterious stranger. When he is found murdered, his son takes over his company and begins searching for the man responsible for his father's death. In the process, he uncovers a tragic secret. In 'Hotel Splendide' (1932) a thief is released from prison and travels to the site where he buried his stolen jewels only to discover that a hotel has been built there in the interim. 'The Night of the Party' (1934) is set during a dinner party hosted by the ruthless Lord Studholme (Malcolm Keen). When he is murdered during a party game, the police must uncover which of the guests is responsible for the crime. In 'Her Last Affaire' (1936) a politician's wife is found dead at a country inn but the investigation stalls when the only suspect has an alibi. Finally, 'Behind the Mask' (1944) is an abridged version of 'The Man Behind the Mask' (1936) and follows an attempted theft at a masked ball.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Remastered</i>

In 'Tokyo Twilight' (1957) graduate Akiko Sugiyama (Ineko Arima) is looking for her boyfriend, Kenji (Masami Taura), with whom she has a troubled relationship, when she meets a woman she believes may be her long-lost mother. Akiko's older sister, Takako (Setsuko Hara), tries to protect her from finding out about how their mother abandoned them but Akiko soon learns the truth with tragic consequences. In 'Woman of Tokyo' (1933) Chikako (Yoshiko Okada) works day and night to pay for her young brother, Ryoichi (Ureo Egawa)'s, university expenses. As the wage from her office job does not cover the costs, Chikako also works as a prostitute during the night, which Ryoichi is unaware of. When his girlfriend, whose brother is a policeman, finds out about Chikako's double life the situation spirals out of control. In 'Early Spring' (1956) office worker Shoji Sugiyama (Ryô Ikebe) is bored with his marriage to Masako (Chikage Awashima) and embarks on an affair with flirtatious colleague Kaneko (Keiko Kishi). Will Shoji be able to repair the damage he has done when Masako eventually finds out?<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
