After being chased away by the company's violent owner John Dickinson (Robert Mitchum), Blake becomes involved in a series of chaotic and violent confrontations which leave him wounded and close to death. However, his fortunes change when he is befriended by a Native American outcast called Nobody (Gary Farmer) who vows to be his guide for the rest of his journey.
