On Valentine's Day in 1900, a group of students and teachers from a private girls' school leave for a picnic at Hanging Rock. Four of the girls decide to explore the rocks and an unseen force sends everyone present to sleep. When they wake, three students and one teacher have disappeared. One girl is later found unconscious but alive, but the others are never seen again. Three of the group believe that they have planned a scenario that will scare and entertain their viewers, but the spirits that haunt the asylum are not to be trifled with and they are angry. Brown explores the motivation and desire of such people, generally young men, to engage in the ever-dangerous act of racing. Brown himself is an enthusiast of the sport, as is the celebrated Steve McQueen who is along for the ride.
