Mute

Cabaret Voltaire's most commercially successful album, Code, returns on Mute after years out of print. First released in 1987, the band's eighth studio album has been remastered from the original tapes by Denis Blackham, who has worked on every Cabaret Voltaire album for over 20 years, with the original artwork restored. Co-produced with dub mastermind Adrian Sherwood, Code pushed toward synth-pop and mechanistic funk while staying defiantly credible. It was the last Cabaret Voltaire album made with a major budget and includes the charting singles Don't Argue and Here to Go. Recorded at the band's Western Works studio in Sheffield, with Sherwood involved in pre-production before mixing at Red Bus in London, it reflects the group's commercial and creative peak. This reissue began in 2019 with Richard H. Kirk and was completed after his death using his notes, with Stephen Malinder and Richard's estate.

This album is a dynamic document of late-period CAN. Recorded in March 1977, the core line up of Irmin Schmidt, Jaki Liebezeit, Michael Karoli and Holger Czukay is augmented by the addition of Rosko Gee (Traffic) on bass. Gee's recent addition to the line-up meant that Holger Czukay was freed up from bass duties to perform 'waveform radio and spec. sounds', manifesting here as otherworldly sounds, samples and what one reviewer of a later show described as "moontalk to a white continental telephone."

Can: Live In Paris 1973 [Vinyl LP]

The legendary Slovenian group's first original studio album since 2014's Spectre, MUSICK - intensely pop, yet intensely Laibach. This record simultaneously celebrates and critiques the current era of warped reality and AI imitation. The title reflects a duality: an oversaturation, being "sick of music" in an age where over 100,000 new tracks, many AI-generated, are uploaded daily, making us question reality; and a "pathological devotion" that continues to drive the band. The maximalist creation process in their Ljubljana studio involved analogue synths, toys, computers with sound apps, and collaborators like Donna Marina Mårtensson and Richard X. They drew influences from K-pop, J-pop, and 90s Eurodance, yet maintained that their primary influence and reference point remained Laibach itself. Available via Mute on limited edition neon pink vinyl and CD.

For their second full-length album, Under My Umbrella, Miss Grit has lifted the lid on their internal world, lasering in on the anxieties and heartbreak of the past two years, following their acclaimed debut Follow the Cyborg. On this album, Margaret Sohn - aka Miss Grit (they/she) - channels the noirish atmosphere of classic trip-hop bands, while adding a hefty dose of maximalism and a dream-pop sensibility. The title is a nod to the iconic Rihanna song and embraces Sohn "...letting people in more on this record and trying not to shy away from that. I'm leaving the cyborg behind, I'm letting it all out." Under My Umbrella not only presents Sohn's gift for complex production, but also the boldness of finding your voice, and ultimately is about coming to terms with yourself, your imperfections, and your complex interior world.
