Nna Tapes

NNA is proud to announce the release of "Preamble," a recording of new compositions by Qasim Naqvi. Perhaps best known for his work on drums in the modern acoustic trio Dawn of Midi.

We're excited to welcome New York City-based composer and performer Lea Bertucci back to NNA for a brand new full-length, 'Metal Aether.' Lea's early 2017 cassette release 'All That Is Solid Melts Into Air' focused on her role as a composer, with a hand-picked selection of talented musicians performing her acoustically conceptual compositions. 'Metal Aether' instead showcases her role as a performer, revealing four pieces that represent approximately 3 years of ideas and gestures for alto saxophone and magnetic tape. Expanding on 2014's 'Light Silence, Dark Speech' as well as 2015's 'Axis/Atlas,' 'Metal Aether' develops a language of extended technique for alto saxophone that is based on a spectral, psychoacoustic, and non-linguistic approach to the instrument.

NNA Tapes is proud to present Secret Meeting, the collaboration of Travis Laplante (tenor saxophone) and Peter Evans (trumpet). Laplante and Evans are each devoted to creating multidimensional improvisational spaces, pushing their instruments to the edge in the service of a musical experience that travels beyond the realm of the mind. The deeply mysterious, epic improvisations on Secret Meeting points toward a seemingly ancient relationship between these two boundary-breaking improvisers. Encompassing a vast array of sounds and an umbilical cord-like connection, Secret Meeting embodies profound exhaustion in one moment, as though the players' collective weariness might altogether slump them over, and manages unparalleled vitality and vigor in the next. Through all of these sonic undulations, Evans and Laplante place the listener within a visceral, symbiotic torrent of beauty.

The sophomore album from Kalbells, illustrates the formidable love Kalmia Traver discovered with her touring band turned bandmates. Together, Angelica Bess, Zoe Becher, Sarah Pedinotti and Traver, practice both listening and accountability, rejoicing in their queerness, and promoting each other to be their most genuine selves. The result is Max Heart-ten vibrant and subtly layered tracks of mesmerizing psychedelic synth-pop. Common groove language is a rare medicine to happen across, which is why, as a group, playing together has been not only exciting, but healing. Max Heart harnesses this magnetic power for a collection of songs that are packed with inspired tension and daring surreality.
