Jewelry Drawings (Bok)

One hundred years of jewelry design, revealed through a remarkable selection of rarely seen drawings from the Petit Palais's collection.

This richly illustrated volume explores more than a century of creativity, innovation and craftsmanship through a rare and remarkable selection of jewelry design drawings from the Petit Palais's exceptional collection. Beautiful in their own right - luminous gouaches, finely worked studies and delicately annotated sketches - these sheets offer privileged insight into the imagination and technical mastery of their makers.

Drawings by designers including Pierre-Georges Deraisme and Charles Jacqueau are presented alongside designs for leading houses such as Boucheron, Cartier, Lalique, Rouvenat and Vever. Organized into themed sections, the book traces the path from inspiration to execution: from natural motifs and ornamental sources to the transformation of an idea into a finished jewel. Botanical forms, sinuous feathers and intricate insect wings are distilled into precise lines and vibrant colour, revealing how designers balanced observation with invention. Works such as Georges Fouquet's sycamore pendant and insect ring demonstrate the extraordinary skill required to translate a line on the paper into a jewel in the hand.

By placing these rare drawings beside the pieces they inspired, the book opens a window onto process, collaboration and artistry, and affirms these works on paper as both historical treasures and enduring works of art.
