Jacobs worked as a journalist in New York City and wrote at length about how Moses' urban renewal projects were in fact tearing down neighbourhoods and their communities, even publishing a book called 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities' decrying Moses as a destructive force. Jacobs even succeeded in rallying popular support against Moses, denying him free reign over the city and engaging people with the issues of the urban ecosystem and community.
